From the 1st of November to the 15th of December,2018, SANDUQ El-DUNIA was exhibited at Darb1718’s contemporary art and culture center, as part of the 2nd edition of “Something Else – Off Biennale Cairo” in which over 100 local and international artists have presented artworks and imagined different paths of history in a group show. The Off Biennale is curated by the well renowned art critic and lecturer Simon Nijami, who was recently the chief curator of the 12th Edition of the Dak’Art Biennale (Senegal)
Loosely translated as the “world in a box”, SANDUQ El-DUNIA is a large public, touchscreen installation that allow users to create a dynamic relationship with their heritage by presenting the city of greater Cairo and its surroundings to its residents and guests, in the form of an interactive, virtual mind map. The map will also users to explore, augment and comment on a vast collection of historical and contemporary photographs – through a living, continuously nourished platform and database.
SANDUQ El-DUNIA’s approach to city history and culture was designed according to the award winning project the Wall /Vaegen pioneered by the Museum of Copenhagen with Gibson Group. The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute in Cairo incubates the project since 2012.
