Knowledge

The program promotes the strengthening of knowledge-based societies in the Arab World and in Europe.  It focuses its projects and activities on developing two areas: media and education.

The access to reliable information - coming from a variety of  sources and gathered with a strong critical approach - is central to develop a knowledge-based society, which encourages human development and prosperity. By human prosperity we mean the liberty of each individual to choose the life that he or she wants to live. The recent revolution of technology and knowledge has opened up new opportunities to human livelihood if it is used at its maximum, because it breaks former monopolies of knowledge and allows for information to flow freely and stimulate the exchange of ideas and opinions.

This places a big responsibility on the key providers of information, among others: scholars, teachers, academics, traditional and new media personnel, and publishers. Building knowledge-based societies requires better quality of education, the use of up-to-date technology in teaching, improving the state of independent academic research as well as promoting free, independent and engaged media.  The Knowledge-program targets these bearers of the knowledge-based society in order to develop and ensure a high quality in the information they provide to the public.
